Spartyka Foundation’s Recreation division hosts events such as 5K’s, half-marathon races, and Mixed Martial Arts to raise revenue in support of the foundation’s other divisions. We also host an amputee softball league to honor wounded warriors. Studies show that outdoor activities help fight depression. The Spartyka Foundation works to encourage veterans to participate in our recreational events to not only fight depression, but also to introduce the veterans to a community of like-minded people who can support them in their needs.
Upcoming Recreation events include a the Task Force Freedom 5K in Virginia Beach on 11/9/14, an MMA fight in Hampton in February, and “Beth’s Brave Steps” – a female veteran’s mission to battle depression by hiking the Appalachian Trail from May to October 2015 in support of veteran suicide prevention.
